Regulatory Reform Order - Did You Know?

Any Temporary or Contract Workers should be advised of who are the 'competent persons' for the premises and also of the fire safety procedures for the premises.
 

Employees should be informed of the significant hazards found in the fire risk assessment. This should include the measures employed to reduce fires and how those measures will protect them.
 

Where the 'Responsible Person' appoints one or more 'competent persons' they must make arrangements for ensuring adequate co-operation between the competent persons.

 

The 'Responsible Person' must record in writing the findings of the fire risk assessment if 5 or more persons are employed - paid or voluntary.
 

The 'Responsible Person' must ensure that any person working in their undertaking who is not an employee is provided with appropriate instructions and comprehensible and relevant information regarding any risks to that person.
 

The 'Responsible Person' can include any person who has control of any part of the premises.....
 

The 'Responsible Person' must ensure that their employees are provided with adequate fire safety training.
 

In a multi-occupancy property or where there is more than one 'Responsible Person'. The responsible persons should communicate and discuss their significant findings, thereby attempting to reduce and control the risks to the occupiers.
 

The 'Responsible Person' must inform any other relevant 'Responsible Persons' of the fire risks associated with their premises.

 

Where Children are employed (anyone under the age of 18) - their parents / guardians must be informed of the significant findings of the fire risk assessment and any measures taken to protect their children.
 

The 'Responsible Person' must ensure that the number of 'competent persons', the time available for them to fulfil their functions and the means at their disposal, are adequate having regard to the size of the premises, the risks to which relevant persons are exposed and the distribution of those risks throughout the premises.

Where persons from an outside undertaking are employed to work in a premises the 'Responsible Person' must provide to the other employer, comprehensible and relevant information on the 'fire risks' identified and the 'preventative and protective' measures put in place.
 

The 'Responsible Person' must make, or cause to be made, a suitable and sufficient assessment of the risks to which relevant persons are exposed, for the purpose of identifying the general fire precautions they need to take to comply with the requirements of the RRO.
 

The 'Responsible Person' must appoint one or more 'competent persons' to assist them in undertaking the preventative and protective measures.
